When the first storm came, I was there.
I immediately mobilized a group of volunteers and set to the streets to deliver blankets, coats, gloves, hats and hot meals to neighborhoods all over the county until power was restored. I partnered with the Albany Fire Department, Greater Cutliff Grove Church, and Maryland Fried Chicken and created an impromptu resource fair to provide warm clothes, toiletries, and warm meals to over 500 citizens who were without power in sub-freezing temperatures.
During and after the second storm,
My agency, the BAM Agency, was contracted prior to the second storm by Dougherty County Emergency Management Agency to provide lifesaving alerts through every medium possible to alert the citizens of Dougherty County to find cover as the storms approached, potentially saving thousands of lives. I also managed local, regional, state and national media to ensure that Dougherty County was no longer forgotten so that we could gain the attention needed to be declared a federal state of emergency. I worked alongside the Governors’ office, state legislators, GEMA, the Red Cross, Albany Police Department, Dougherty County Police Department, the Albany Fire Department and a host of volunteers to help Dougherty County recover. It was my pleasure to work alongside Dougherty County’s greatest heroes to help make #AlbanyStrong
After the second storm,
I mobilized a team of local small businesses, corporations, restaurants, event planners, community organizations alongside the Albany Fire Department to organize the Albany Strong Fun Fest as a moment of healing for our community. At this event, over 3000 people gathered to celebrate surviving a major storm, we were able to thank the hundreds of volunteers who generously gave selflessly to help restore Dougherty County and we distributed recovery materials and resources to those who were still in need of assistance. And most importantly, we had fun thanks to iHeart Media, FUNction Events and all of the local entertainers that donated their services to make this event a huge success.
When some of the commissioners voted “no” to youth programming,
I came to the commission meeting to look each commissioner in the eye to challenge them regarding why they thought it was the right thing to do to vote against keeping a program that instills leadership, provides exposure and teaches civics to the youth in Dougherty County who really need it the most. Despite John Hayes insistence on voting against GCAPS, all other commissioners changed their vote to keep the program in existence. The program, currently in its third year, has continued to mold the next generation of political leaders with 100% of its members graduating and going on to pursue post-secondary education.
I will continue to work towards a more progressive Dougherty County.
I will restore accountability and honor to the District 2 Commission seat. I care about Dougherty County and the citizens who make Dougherty County great. Together, we can move Dougherty County forward. We deserve a commissioner in our ward that will not bring unnecessary scandal nor make poor decisions based on ego. I am not signing up for photo ops or bragging rights. I am here to work as I have for this community for many years.
I will fight for equity and inclusion for all citizens in Dougherty Co.
Together, we are all responsible for the success and failure of this community. I will continue to empower citizens to use their voices to create the Dougherty County that we all want to live in. No matter your race, age, gender, religion or ability, everyone deserves a fair shot at living the good life in Dougherty Co.
I will aid in restoring the economy of Dougherty County back to a place of sustainability.
We do not need higher taxes, but like any good business, we need more revenue streams pouring back into the Dougherty County economy. We need more businesses, industries, tourist attractions, retail, grocery stores and events in East and South Albany. Progress should be all over Dougherty County and I will fight to ensure that economic development is equitable for District 2.
