Sherrell is ready
Sherrell Byrd is a native Albanian who has resided in Dougherty County for the majority of her life. She is committed to seeing her hometown be the best county in the South and has done the work towards that.
As a fund development consultant, Sherrell Byrd has raised millions of dollars for nonprofits, higher education, and community initiatives for over a decade. As a nonprofit management expert, she has successfully managed several nonprofits ranging from youth development programs to the local zoo. For years, she has facilitated several nonprofit capacity building workshops for nonprofit organizations all over the county and led the startup and management of several more. As an event planner, she has developed numerous major events for Dougherty County, including Easter egg hunts, Halloween events, cultural events, women’s events, concerts, awards shows, festivals and most recently the Albany Strong Fun Fest. She has served on several steering committees in including Emerge Albany, Dougherty Co. GCAPS and the Albany State University Strategic Planning Committee. She currently serves on the Dougherty County Retirement Committee, the Albany Relief and Recovery Long Term Recovery Committee and the Dougherty County GCAPS Advisory Committee.
A visionary leader
Sherrell is also the founder of the Albany Business League, an organization that provides economic empowerment and business development opportunities for African Americans and people of African descent. Through this organization, she has held many community forums to empower citizens to use their collective voices to influence the course of events politically and socially at all levels including government, business, and civic communities. She was recently selected by the national organization founded by former President Barack Obama, Organizing for Action (OFA) as a Fellows Leader and is currently empowering others across south Georgia to be community organizers to impact change in their own communities.
Sherrell is the owner of the BAM Agency, which provides branding, advertising, and marketing services to businesses, nonprofit organizations and municipalities. Her company was contracted in 2017 to managed crisis communication for all of Dougherty County during the January storms, providing life-saving alerts and information about critical resources that were available to Dougherty County citizens during their time of need.
Sherrell Byrd a proud mom of two children, Shelise and Sheldon, which she considers her greatest accomplishments.
